GST Overview
Goods and Services Tax (GST) replaced multiple indirect taxes in India from July 2017. It is a destination-based tax applied at each supply chain stage with input tax credit mechanism for businesses.
Tax Components
- CGST + SGST: Intra-state transactions (split equally)
- IGST: Inter-state transactions (full rate to centre)
Total rate is the same — only split differs.

Calculation Examples
Add 18% GST to ₹10,000 (intra-state): GST = ₹1,800. CGST = ₹900, SGST = ₹900. Total = ₹11,800.
Remove GST from ₹11,800 inclusive: Taxable = 11800 / 1.18 = ₹10,000.
